This week we will have a chance to begin thinking about writing for the "ear". Genres and contexts for this include everything from NPR-style audio podcasts to DJ remixes and abstract audio collages. Look below for some additional listening examples.

Tuesday

Discussion of first half, "Rhythm Science" by Paul Miller / DJ Spooky
  • Appropriation, recontextualization of "found" and sampled audio
  • DJ/Remix aesthetic
  • layering; legibility/audibility;


Thursday

Audacity lab - we'll learn to import audio, edit and remix multiple voices to a dual channel master, and export to Mp3 for listening on Ipods or steaming on the web. Audio files for Lab Day

  • Import audio OR record and import a voice sample
  • Edit and mix voice with music or ambient sound
